Memorízate! is the website of the International Baltasar Garzón Foundation (Figbar), set up to preserve historical memory and serving as a place to collect testimonies related to the Spanish Civil War and the years of the Franco dictatorship. The Foundation asked us to rebuild an old web platform using more advanced technology that would guarantee scalability, data security, navigability and front-end usability.
The biggest challenge we faced during the development of the new application was how to treat the data in a secure way. To do this, we built a hyper secure platform that would protect very valuable and sensitive information. The second challenge consisted of guaranteeing the scalability of the project to convert the initial database into a participatory census of historical memories and allow for the largest possible number of documentary references.
For the rebuild of Memorízate! we created a new application in Symfony with a new data model (mySQL) and migrated all the information contained in the previous website (PostgreSQL). We built a new system to manage the content, collection and publication of testimonies (text, audio, video, images and documents). The pubic facing part of the site was redesigned, optimizing the performance of all the pages.
The site’s search engine allows you to easily find any of the 6,000 testimonies or material related to historical memory that the site currently holds. These testimonies are sent from the front of the web to the application’s backoffice, which has validation and publication tools to make them available for public viewing.
